アジ目（Carangiformes）は、Ovalentariaの姉妹クレードに属する条鰭綱の目である。元々は、以前はスズキ目(Perciformes)の一部とされていた。Fishes of the World 第5版では、アジ目には6科が分類されており[2]、30科を含む説もある[3]。
最古のアジ目魚類として知られているのは、ペルーのMene purydiとチュニジアのMene phosphaticaの2種の化石で、いずれも暁新世後期のものである[4]。

以下の種は、アジ目に分類される[2]。
- ネーマティスティウス科 Nematistiidae Gill[5] (roosterfish)
- シイラ科 Coryphaenidae Rafinesque, 1815[5] (dolphinfish)
- スギ科 Rachycentridae Gill 1896[5] (cobia)
- コバンザメ科 Echeneidae Rafinesque, 1815[5] (remoras)
- アジ科 Carangidae Rafinesque, 1815[5] (jacks)
- ギンカガミ科 Menidae Fitzinger, 1873[5] (moonfishes)
シイラ科、スギ科、コバンザメ科は単系統のグループを構成することが示唆されており、Carangidaeの姉妹クレードとされる[2]。
食味がよいため、アジ科の種は多く食材として利用される。また、スポーツフィッシングにおいては、ロウニンアジが対象魚として知られている。
シイラはアーネスト・ヘミングウェイの『老人と海』で「実が緩くて甘いので上味ではない」と云われているが、ハワイでは「マヒマヒ」と云われて伝統食材（「ロミロミ」など）として定着している。フライやムニエルなど、かなり美味い料理はあるのだが、水面近くを泳いでサバ釣り舟を追いかけてくるのが目で見えたりするので、ソウダガツオと並んで「外道」扱いされやすい。あまり市場には出回らない。
