ケニー・ロジャース (カントリー歌手)

ケニー・ロジャース（Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Rogers、1938年8月21日-2020年3月20日）は、アメリカ合衆国出身の歌手。カントリー・ミュージック界の重鎮であり、同国の国民的歌手として知られる。

略歴

1938年にアメリカ南部・テキサス州ヒューストンで生まれる。高校時代からバンドを組み、1966年にフォークグループに参加する。解散後はソロとして活動し、1970年代に「ルシール」「ザ・ギャンブラー」など数々のヒット曲を世に送り出した。

1985年、マイケル・ジャクソンやクインシー・ジョーンズらと参加したプロジェクト「USAフォー・アフリカ」で「ウィー・アー・ザ・ワールド」を大ヒットさせている。カントリーの大物女性歌手であるドリー・パートンとのデュエット曲である「アイランド・イン・ザ・ストーリーム」も大きな話題となった。

およそ60年間にわたって現役歌手として活躍し、アメリカでは国民的歌手と呼ばれてグラミー賞を3度も受賞し、テレビ映画にも出演したりしている。

晩年の2018年にラストツアーを健康上の理由でキャンセルした後、ホスピスでケアを受けていたという。2020年3月20日、老衰のため、アメリカ南部ジョージア州サンディスプリングスで死去した。81歳没。
