エドワード・オズボーン・ウィルソン

エドワード・オズボーン・ウィルソン（Edward Osborne Wilson, 1929年6月10日 - 2021年12月26日）は、アメリカ合衆国の昆虫学者、社会生物学と生物多様性の研究者、バイオフィリア、コンシリエンスなどの理論提唱者、環境保護主義の支援者。世俗的ヒューマニズムとブライト運動の支援、および宗教、倫理への対話的姿勢によっても知られている。ハーバード大学比較動物学博物館のペルグリノ名誉教授であり、サイコップおよび世俗的ヒューマニズムを推進するCODESHの会員である。

経歴

アメリカ南部アラバマ州で生まれる。アラバマ大学で学んだ後、ハーバード大学で博士号を取得し、長く同大学教授を務めた。アリの生態研究の第一人者として、社会生物学という分野を切り開き、「生物の多様性」という言葉の生みの親の1人と目されている。2012年には国際花と緑の博覧会記念協会が大阪市で開催された際、自然と人間の共生に貢献した研究者に贈るコスモス国際賞を受賞した。

2021年12月26日にアメリカ東部マサチューセッツ州バーリントンで92歳で死去した。
